You will have an opportunity to practice each of these skills on your fellow caregivers and/or mannikins during your lab.  Everyone must participate!  This means be prepared to take your shoes off for foot care and have your teeth cleaned by someone else!  Contact your Core Basic Instructor in advance of your lab dates with any questions.

A newly hired non-credentialed LTC worker must complete 75 hours of training within 120 days of hire and become certified as a Home Care Aide with 200 days of hire.

Mandatory Steps to Becoming Licensed as a Home Care Aide

1.) WA Dept of Health:

Within 14 days of hire, you should submit a Home Care Aide Certification Packet to the DOH.  The DOH will be registering you for your State exam with Prometric as part of this application process. The application fee is ($85) and the exam fee is ($137). These fees are non-refundable and are paid directly to the Department of Health, not Cornerstone.

Note:  HIV/Bloodborne Pathogen training IS included in the 75 hours of training.

2.)  Complete 75 Hours of HCA Training with Cornerstone Healthcare Training.  We are a licensed, private vocational school offering 75 hours of DSHS approved training.

3.) Once you have completed your 75 hours of HCA training:

YOU will need to mail, fax or email your 75 Hour Certificate to Completion to the Department of Health.

This is your personal license/credential that will stay with you no matter where you are employed.  Cornerstone does NOT manage this process.

Washinton State Department of Health

Mail:  Home Care Aide Credentialing
P.O. Box 47877
Olympia,  WA  98504-7877

Fax:  (360) 236-2701

Email:  homecareaides@doh.wa.gov

4.)  Prometric:  When your 75 hours of training is complete (the part you do w/ Cornerstone) and the DOH has received your 75 Hour Certificate, Prometric will email you an Admission to Test (ATT) letter. This letter will provide important information about the time, date and location of the exam.   Prometric is the company the Department of Health contracts with to administer the certification exam (written and skills). You MUST have an email address for this process.

Note:  Cornerstone does NOT submit/manage your application or exam scheduling, etc.  This is the student's responsibility and the licensing/exam fees are NOT included in our program costs.

Detailed information about the HCA exam can be found on the Prometric website and we encourage all students to read the Candidate ID Bulletin so that you know what to expect.

Questions about your application or general HCA credentialing questions should be directed to the Department of Health Home Care Aide Call Center at (360) 236-4700 between 8am and 5pm Monday through Friday.
